A Season of Growth: Looking Ahead to an Even Bigger Garden
There’s something special about the start of a new gardening season—the anticipation, the fresh plans, and the promise of growth, in every sense of the word. This year, we’re stepping into the season with more excitement than ever. Not only is our garden expanding to more that twice its previous size, but we’re also growing our vision for what the space can be for our community.
Alongside the garden, we’re thrilled to be developing our farmstand into something even more meaningful—a small but growing food hub. In addition to our frech garden-grown produce, we’re working toward offering items like eggs and other locally sourced goods. Our goal is simple: make it easier for our community to access fresh, nourishing food while supporting local producers and strengthening connections right here in Basin.
Growing Together: Why Community Matters
While the expansion of the garden brings incredible opportunity, it also brings a very real challenge—this is no longer something one person (or family) can sustain alone.
Last year, Mike, with a little help from me and our kids, took on the entire garden. Through his dedication and hard work, we were able to harvest over 1,500 pounds of produce. It was an amazing accomplishment, but it came at a cost. The workload was enormous, and with the garden now more that twice as large, it simply isn’t physically possible for one person to carry that responsibility again.
That’s where community comes in—not as a nice addition, but as an essential part of making this garden successful.
We need hands and hearts at every stage:
Preparing the soil and finishing the garden setup
Planting and transplanting crops
Tending the garden through weeding, fertilizing, and pruning
Harvesting and helping bring food to the farmstand
This year is different in the best possible way. The garden is now in a location where the community is truly welcome to be a part of it—hands-on, as often as they’d like. Whether you can give an hour here and there or want to be deeply involved throughout the season, there is a place for you in this work.
More Than a Garden
This isn’t just about growing food. It’s about growing resilience, skills, and relationships. It’s about creating a space where people can learn, contribute, and connect—with the land and with each other.
We believe something powerful happens when people come together around a shared purpose. The garden becomes more than rows of plants—it becomes a place of learning, laughter, hard work and shared success.
